FAR FAR AWAY

Ah yes, Boca and Bubba hit the road again. More or less. "To stay young, the doctor said to exercise and eat the right foods" said BUBBA. "What?" said BOCA, " I thought he said ACCESSORIZE AND BUY NICE SHOES." And so begins Boca and Bubba's next adventure.

HOW TRAVEL DECISIONS ARE MADE

After several long car drives, Boca thought it was time for a bit of a different kind of "cruzin". Ah yes time for the high seas. NO NO NO yelped Bubba. "Don't you understand we are in a recession aka depression!!!" That was until one of his good buddies said, "Hey Bubba, this cruise looks pretty darn good. Are ya goin?" And that was all it took. "Well, hell yes. We are in good buddy!" Must be a man thing. And so begins Boca and Bubba's next adventure. It has all the making's of some Bubba and Boca madness...start in LA and end in Shanghai. Look out Charlie Chan- be sure to follow the google calendar below. And yes yes I am behind already.

DAY 2 FEB 12 JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK Southern Cali or 127 Mins a la Rock Pile

Desert Park
Viewed from the road, this desert park only hints at its vitality. Closer examination reveals a fascinating variety of plants and animals that make their home in this land shaped by strong winds, unpredictable torrents of rain, and climatic extremes. Dark night skies, a rich cultural history, and surreal geologic features add to the attraction of this place. Come see for yourself!

75th Anniversary
Joshua Tree National Park will commemorate its 75th anniversary as a unit of the National Park System throughout 2011. Reflecting the relationship that Californians, all Americans, and a growing number of international visitors have with the park, the theme of the anniversary is 75 years of inspiration.
A variety of public events and 75th-related activities will be held throughout the year. The schedule of events can be found at www.jtnp75.org.

So along with  Wags and Rebie we head out to the desert to visit Joshua Tree aka very cool Rockpiles.  Bubba lead me to believe we were heading out to Palm Springs post park- La Quinta Resort here we come!  But at the end of the last rock pile Bubba decided San Diego is just around the corner so let's book it...

They may be celebrating 75 years of being a part of the Park world but Joshua Tree wasn't declared a National Park until 1994 when Congress passed the California Desert Protection Act.  The park is 789,745 acres big, an area slightly larger than Rhode Island.

And the park was named for these weird shaped cactus trees that the Mormon's thought looked liked praying hands to heaven.

This popular rock climbing park is also filled with "scrambling" enthusiasts.  Duh, didn't they see 127 Hour's?  Nothing like not telling anybody where you're going for a walk and having to cut your arm off to get yourself out of a slip and fall....ewe.  This movie is almost as joyous as the Black Swan...

And this is how Boca and Bubba would like to look from behind.  Damn that no body fat Rebie!

And at the end of the day Bubba said San Diego is just around the corner, let's keep trekking.  Hasta La Vista La Quinta Resort.  Grrrr.  It was a long silent ride from there....
